Art, Technology and a Qualified Team
Hair
Transplantation is a surgery that combines
art and technology.
In what stages
of the surgery is art used?
• when we determine, case by case, the
best design for the front hairline.
• when we create a non-straight hairline
and degradée, that is when we create
a natural hairline.
• when we ascertain what the correct
angle of inclination is for the follicular
units to be transplanted in each area.
• when we determine the percentage that
should be transplanted in each area in order
to optimize the result.
• when we determine the correct marking
of the donor and recipient areas, etc.
Art is used in planning the best strategy
for each case, but the application of art
occurs primarily during surgery, coming from
the ability of the surgeon and team.
The surgeon who performs hair transplant surgery
must be very skilled in order to create the
micro incisions where the follicular units
will be placed, as well as adhere to many
other details important to this surgery.
Team
Just as important as the surgeon, are the
surgical assistants, who prepare the follicular
units and assist in their placement.
It is necessary to have a tremendous skill
to prepare the FUs under a high powered microscope
without permitting any damage to the donor
area, that is without permitting any trauma
to the roots.

As we
may not waste a single hair follicle, during
the training phase for new assistants, we
use other materials that are not a patient’s
scalp tissue. The new assistant will only
begin working with us in surgery when we are
certain that he or she has acquired the skills
to perform the necessary functions.
For every three assistants who begin training,
only one will continue on our team, the one
who has the essential ability.
The second phase is to acquire speed in the
process of separation, which takes on average
six months to one year of practice.

You may
then imagine the difficulty in creating a
large team, as highly qualified as ours, composed
of eight professionals.
Further, we have to prepare for the possibility
that an assistant may be sick on the day of
surgery, leave the team, etc. In this case,
we cannot wait another six months to train
another assistant, so we maintain a staff
of ten assistants on a rotation schedule to
avoid this situation.
Team
To keep
the team well attuned, involved in the area
of hair transplant surgery and well trained,
frequency is necessary, since a band that
plays every day, plays better than a band
that plays once a week.
Imagine the hair
transplant surgery team like an orchestra,
with the surgeon as its conductor.
Technology
• State-of-the-art microscopes used
to separate follicular units (1).
• Micro-surgical blades to create incisions
(2).
• materials and preserving solutions
utilized to store the FUs until the moment
of their placement (3).
• high powered magnifying glasses to
improve visibility at the moment of placement
(4).
• monitors to train assistants and also
for patient comfort (5).
